VEEM
CAS NO : 76392-22-82-(2-Vinyloxyethoxy)ethyl methacrylate, also known as VEEM or vinyl ether ethyl methacrylate, is a reactive monomer similar to VEEA but with a methacrylate group instead of an acrylate group. It has several applications in the polymer industry:
- Radiation-curable coatings and inks: VEEM is widely used in radiation-curable systems, such as UV-curable coatings, inks, and adhesives. Its vinyl ether group makes it highly reactive towards cationic and free-radical polymerization initiated by UV or electron beam radiation.
- Coatings and paints: VEEM is used as a reactive diluent in the formulation of coatings and paints, particularly for industrial and automotive applications. It imparts excellent weathering resistance, flexibility, and adhesion properties to the coatings.
- Adhesives and sealants: VEEM can be used as a reactive diluent in the formulation of adhesives and sealants, improving flexibility, impact resistance, and adhesion strength.
- Plastic modification: VEEM can be used as a reactive modifier in various plastic systems, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polystyrene, and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS), improving impact resistance, flexibility, and processing characteristics.
- Reactive diluent: VEEM is commonly used as a reactive diluent in various polymer systems, including polyurethanes, epoxy resins, and unsaturated polyester resins, helping to reduce viscosity and improve processing characteristics.
- Dental materials: VEEM finds applications in the formulation of dental materials, such as dental adhesives and composites, due to its excellent adhesion properties and ability to undergo polymerization.
